ordained General Bishop of Churches of Hadayek El-Kobba, El-Wayli, Abbassia, Manshiyet El-Sadr. Pope Tawadros II during the ordination: “The monk Hegumen Yakoubos Anba Bishoy is a monk from the Monastery of Saint Bishoy in Wadi El-Natroun. He was recommended for the episcopacy by Their Graces Bishop Agabius, Bishop and Abbot of his monastery, as well as Bishop Makary and Bishop Mikhael, with whom he served as spiritual supervisor of the Theological Seminary in Cairo. He has been chosen to serve as a general bishop for the sector of Hadayek El-Kobba, El-Wayli, Abbassia, and Mansheyet El-Sadr, while continuing his role as spiritual supervisor at the seminary in Cairo.
Since this year marks the 17th centenary of the Council of Nicaea, it was fitting that one of the new bishops bear the name ‘Athanasius’. Therefore, we chose for him the name of Bishop Athanasius.”
